After the 3-2 win over Arsenal, Manchester United triumphed over Watford last night, thanks to Mata’s sublime freekick.
Louis Van Gaal has shown that he has faith in the United youth players, and it looks like things are finally working out for him or perhaps his philosophy works effectively when young players are involved.
Manchester United win against watford is their 3rd win in a row and they are actually closer to the top of the table, they now have 47 points with Manchester City although City are yet to play a game.
Fosu-Mensah was in the starting lineup against Watford, he partnered with his countryman Daley Blind at the center back. Rothwell was and unused sub.
We take a look at the player ratings from Mancherster United’ 1-0 victory over Watford:
De Gea: David was solid at the back as usual, made some good saves. He made some exceptional stops, especially correcting mistakes Daley Blind made during the game. I will give him 7/10.
Mensah: The youngster was pressurized by Deeney and Ighalo but he was pretty solid on his full debut. Although he was booked early in the first half, he managed to end the game without conceding a goal. I will give him 7/10
Daley Blind: Daley blind didn’t have perform too well last night, he missed interceptions, misplaced passes and sometimes out of position and was lucky Watford didn’t take advantage of his mistakes. He didn’t have the best performance of his career obviously. I will give him 5/10
Varela: The youngster continued his fine form and was superb at his position and didn’t give the Watford players room to exploit the right wing. I will give him 7/10
Marcos Rojo: The Argentine was solid in his position and was pretty good upfront too, although he was replaced by Darmian at the closing minutes of the game. I will give him 6/10
Schneiderlin: The Frenchman wasn’t all effective in the first half but pulled and outstanding performance in the second half and was able to run the midfield when Herrera was substituted. I will give him 6/10
Herrera: Same as Schneiderlin, was poor in the first half but improved in the second. I give him 5/10
Mata: Looks like the United midfielders didn’t understand the game plan in the first half and LVG used the half time to remind them what the plan was. Just like Schneiderlin and Herrera, Mata was poor in the first half, he held on to the ball too much on several occasions and also misplaced passes upfront. But he was the hero of the night after he converted a freekick that won the game for Manchester United. i will give him 8/10.
Martial: He played very well in the first half but was average in the second half, maybe because he hasn’t partnered with Rashford before making things difficult for him upfront. I give him 6/10
Memphis: The dutchman has improved, his skills and dribbles are eventually working for him although he needs to work on his shots, they’ve always been gong over the goalpost. I give him 5/10.
Rashford: Didn’t show lot of actions in the first half but was pretty good in the second, he gave defenders lot of trouble at his wing. I give him 6/10
Substitutes: Darmian, Lingard and McNair all featured in the game as substitutes. Darmian came on and his first touch nearly led to a goal but the Italian was solid throughout the remaining minutes of the game. Linagrd was good too, he helped Schneiderlin in the Midfield before McNair came in to help.
Overall, it wasn’t Manchester United’s best performance but as they say, It is the 3 points that matters.
