Croatia kicked of their Euro 2016 campaign with a 1 – 0 win over Turkey, thanks to Modric who scored a superb volley to make sure his team makes a flying start.
Turkey were the first to come close to scoring when Ozan Tufan’s header was saved by the Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subasic.
Croatia took the lead in the 41st minute when Modric attempted an outrageous volley from outside the box which eventually bounced in front of goalkeeper Volkan and went into the back of the net.
Darijo Srna almost added to their lead as his free kick clipped the crossbar and went over. Srna missed another chance to make it 2-0 as his shot went wide, not long before Ivan Perisic’s header hit the woodwork.
