Day 3 Knockout stage fixtures took another shape as underdogs continue to surprise and impress. Italy won Cup Holders Spain 2-0 while England were stunned by Iceland.

Excellent defensive cordination ensure Victory for Italy

Italy went up against Spain as underdogs, the went out with full force to give everything they had.


The game started in an interesting manner, Both teams were attacking and looking for options in the final third. Italy made sure that Spain didn’t pass the ball around too much, they were forcing them and hitting them with a counter when given the opportunity.

Italy had their first major chance when Pelle’s header was punched out by David De Gea who’s reflexes was sharp enough to stop the Southampton striker from scoring.

Italy continued to haunt Spain and almost opened the scoring in the 11th minute when De Gea made a superb saved but the referee later called for a fowl.

Italy finally scored in the 33rd minute. Ramos fouls Pelle at the edge of the penalty box, Eder’s powerful freekick was parried by De Gea but Chiellini was in position for the rebound which he pokes in!


Italy almost doubled their lead before half time but Giaccherini effort was saved by De Gea who made a fine save by punching the ball over to corner.

Nolito was subbed off at half time, he was replaced by Aduriz.

Spain had a chance to score but Morata’s header was saved by Buffon.

Italy had another great opportunity when Eder found himself free as he launched a counter, his effort came to nothing as he was stopped by De Gea who made a remarkable save.

Italy started playing cautiously and Spain seem to have found their pace, they had few decent chances but were unlucky.

Silva’s saw Pedro in the box and attempted a pass but his effort was deflected off mark, the ball sailed pass Pedro who couldn’t stick out his foot on time.

Spain almost equalized when Ramos’ header fell in front of Pique who was a little slow to take actions until Buffon superbly flapped the ball away.


Italy cemented their victory with a late goal in the added minutes when they launched a counter, Pelle was unmarked when the ball met him, he makes no mistakes and slots home the ball.

Italy will face Germany in the Quarter finals.


England disappointing performance add to their defeat against Iceland


Who would believe that Iceland would make it to the Quarter finals? I don’t think anyone would predict that because they caused a major upset as they knocked England out of the Euro 2016.

The game started well as both sides struggle to achieve something in the first opening minutes of the game.

England was awarded a penalty after Sterling was fouled by the Iceland goalkeeper; Captain Wayne Rooney steps forward and slots in the penalty.


Iceland pegged England with an instant reply after Gunnarsson’s long throw is flicked on by Árnason and Ragnar Sigurdsson volleys home from close range.

England had a chance to take the lead but Dele Alli’s volley grazed over the bar.

Iceland  took the lead in 18th minute. Sigthórsson collects Bödvarsson’s short pass on the edge of the box and fires low past Hart.

Iceland dominated in the midfield and made it difficult for the England midfielders to savage anything. Kane and Sturridge tried to equalize before half time but were unsuccessful.

England dominated the first half but Iceland were more luckier upfront.


Wilshere replaced Eric Dier at half time as Roy Hodgson starts his search for a miracle.

England had their first chance in the second half when Kane’s header was saved by Halldórsson.

Jamie Vardy replaced Raheem sterling.

Iceland were patient and waited for the opportunity to launch counter attacks. They almost doubled their lead when Sigurdsson overhead kick was saved by Joe Hart.

England had another chance to score when A long throw was flicked on but Alli flashes his effort over the bar.

Manchester Youngster replaced his Captain Wayne Rooney in the closing minutes of the game, he made some superb runs and tried to create chance for his now desperate team-mates but was unsuccessful.


Iceland was solid at the defence position as they maintained their lead till full time

Iceland will Face France in the quarter finals.
