For most Arsenal fans, today is really the opening day of the EPL for them. After waiting for about 3months, the hunger is finally quenched.

But the mood around the Emirate stadium was dampened with the lack of transfer activities bar xhaka. The fact that both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista were out injured for a long period, while Koscienly and Ozil were not match fit. And the thought of playing Liverpool, with both Holding and Chambers as the only fit center backs did little to brighten the mood.

Arsenal started the match as the better team and it was somehow surprising considering most people expected liverpool to be the better side. They had a decent pre season with the Barca match in mind and their Key signing,Mane in good form. Surprisingly, they started slowly, and we didn’t see much of the expected gegenpresing.

Arsenal looked lively and should have taken the lead in the 29th minute when Theo Walcott was brought down by Moreno in the box. Unfortunately for him, he missed but about 2minutes later he made up for it and scored with a nice finish.

The momentum seems to be going Arsenal’s way. Sanchez, Walcott and Ramsey working the liverpool’s defence. They should have made the best of the first half performance. But towards the end of the first half, against the run of play,Continho who had been quiet was fouled just outside the box, played the freekick scoring a spectacular goal. Which ended the half in a draw.

As expected, Liverpool became better in the 2nd half and what ever Klop must have said in the dressing room didn’t take long to materialise with goals from lallana (49) and another from Coutinho (59) .

Liverpool’s dominance continued and in the 63rd minute, Mane made a run from the right side and outran Chambers before curling the ball into the net.

Things got worse for Arsenal as both Iwobi and Ramsey got injured, which prompted Wenger to bring in both Cazorla and Chamberlain.

Chamberlain scored a nice solo goal albeit a deflection from a liverpool player in the 64th minute, while Chambers added another in the 75th minute. That seems to resort some hope for Arsenal but they didn’t look like a team capable of grinding out the much needed goal.

This was a deserved victory for liverpool. Hopefully, Wenger will go back to the drawing board.
