Two managers Jose Mourinho labelled “unethical” will pitch tent against each other at the Emirates on Sunday. Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp were critical of the amount Manchester united spent in bringing Pogba back to England.
Their comments didn’t go down well with the United boss. Mourinho told the media that only a top club like Manchester united can spend such money. Both managers have declined to comments further and the journey to beat Manchester united to the title begins today.
Arsene Wenger will be without a host of players due to fitness issue and a makeshift central defensive partnership is expected in the starting lineup. The team has been rumoured to be in the market for a new centre back but the Sunday game will be too soon for any new addition.
Arsene Wenger has brought in Granit Xhaka to reinforce his midfield after the exit of Mikel Arteta and Thomas Rosicky, their only ‘big’ signing. The fans are clamouring for more signing but Wenger has reiterated that he will only sign a player at the right price.
At his conference on Friday, he said: “I think it’s harder than ever to convince people that you can buy good players at a reasonable price and that the quality is necessarily linked with the amount of money today is in everybody’s mind.”
“Most of the time it’s true – good players cost a lot of money – but you can still find players of top quality at a reasonable price sometimes. It’s not a financial competition, football is a performance competition.”
His Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, has been able to secure seven new signings to build on the squad inherited from Brendan Rodgers last season. Liverpool has injury concerns of their own though, as a number of first team player has been lost to injury.
That is not deterring the reds boss though, as he seeks for a perfect start from his squad. Klopp has always insist on Consistency and tactical play as key to a successful campaign.
In his pre-match conference, Klopp said: “Consistency is the only way to be successful. All of these big jumps in performance, up and down, don’t help.”
“What we’ve tried to do in pre-season is to be more independent to the style of play of the other team. If they defend deep, we cannot change it – we cannot say, ‘come on, it’s boring, give us a little bit of space to play’.”
“If they only play counter-attack, if they play high pressure, all that stuff, you need to always have a solution. That’s what we were working on.”
Wilshere, Jenkinson, Mertesacker and Welbeck are all out due to knee injury. Gabriel is also on the treatment table due to an ankle injury.
Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny are doubtful because of match Fitness.
Lucas (hamstring), Karius (broken hand) Sturridge(hip) and Sakho (calf) will all miss out.
Milner (heel), Grujic (concussion) and Matip (ankle) are doubtful.
