In case you were living under a rock last week you will have known that the European transfer window officially closed last Wednesday bringing a long-awaited end to the football silly season. 

As ever, plenty of clubs took the opportunity to boost the numbers in their squad for the final time until January, with Premier League clubs even managing to take their collective spending past the £1bn mark for the first time.

However, despite spending a considerable fortune on new players over the past couple of months certain managers will still feel that their squad is short of quality, numbers or both.

Sunderland’s David Moyes, for example, despite his best efforts was unable to bring in a new striker on deadline day and with only the 33-year-old Jermain Defoe to call upon, he decided to snap up Victor Anichebe after the window had shut due to the Nigerian being unattached.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis is also running the rule over a couple of free players too by handing Marouane Chamakh and Mohamed Sissoko trials at the Hawthorns as he looks to plug a couple of sizeable gaps in his roster.
