Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez is the one Premier League player Barcelona should buy, according to club legend Xavi Hernandez.
Mahrez, last season’s PFA Player of the Year, was linked with a move to the Liga side among other clubs this summer before he ultimately signed a new four-year deal with the English champions.
Xavi, who has been following the Premier League from his new home in Qatar, where he’s been playing for Al Sadd since leaving Barca in 2015, feels the Algeria international has more than enough quality to fit in alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar at Camp Nou.

“Mahrez is good enough to play for Barcelona, but I am pleased he decided to stay with Leicester,” the 36-year-old said when asked by Shortlist magazine which player the Catalan club should sign from the English top flight.
“He clearly must have had options, but if Leicester had lost their best player after such a big achievement it would have been a shame.
“It will be interesting to see how him and Leicester perform in Europe this season.”
Barca’s reported interest in Mahrez was never confirmed during a summer which saw them sign six players to increase the competition within their squad.
Three of their signings came from Spain, two from France and the final one from the Netherlands. Director of professional sports Albert Soler has since suggested the financial power of the Premier League would make it difficult to buy from England.
