Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has extended his contract with the Italian club until 2021.

The centre-back was constantly linked with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea long-term admirers. Furthermore, it was reported by the Standard that the defender was keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

He wrote on Twitter: “I am happy to announce that Kalidou Koulibaly has renewed his contract with Napoli until 2021.”

Koulibaly is an important player for Napoli and has played every minute in Serie A so far this season to help the team go unbeaten in their first four matches to occupy top spot.

Napoli did well to hold onto the talented defender, with The Telegraph reporting in August that Chelsea offered a club-record £60 million for his services.
