Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is one of five players named on the shortlist for this year’s African Footballer of the Year award.
Mane has enjoyed an excellent year in the Premier League with both Southampton and Liverpool with the 24-year-old getting 14 goals in the top flight across both sides this calender year.
The pacey winger is joined on the shortlist, according to BBC Sport, by fellow Premier League winger Riyad Mahrez, who must be one of the favourites to win the award after claiming the Premier League title and being named the PFA Player of the Season for last year.
West Ham’s Andre Ayew also makes the final five for his efforts in the first half of the year with Swansea City while four-time winner Yaya Toure is also on the shortlist.
The only player not playing in England to make the five is Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international won the award last year and has 18 goals in the Bundesliga across 2016.
