Sahara Football writers predict the top scorer and best player in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Many will realize we hardly experience a basketball scoreline in the Africa Cup of Nations, and we also hardly see players bang in hat tricks and score numerous goals like other players in other competitions, mostly in Europe. But we sure experience stand-out performances coupled with decent goals in the AFCON.

Check out our predictions for Top scorer and Best Player in the 2017 AFCON. If you want to get in touch or drop your own predictions, you can follow us on twitter @Saharafootball or use #SaharaFootball hashtag.

Ade:

Top scorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Top scorer for me is going to be Aubameyang. His form for Dortmund going into the tournament has been awesome. He has adapted his game to being a poacher as all his goals so far this season has been scored from inside the box. Clinical

Player of the Tournament – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Player of the tournament, I’m tipping Aubameyang too. As the host country and captain. They will be determined to defy all odds and win the competition m he will be instrumental to his nation’s hopes as he’s also the skipper of the team.

AFCON- The Almost Obsolete continental tournament

Aryeh Joshua:

Top scorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Top scorer think its going to be inevitably aubameyang
Too hot to handle at the moment and I don’t see any striker outscoring him dis time.

Player of the Tournament – Wilfried Zaha

Best player think will go for a shocker in Wilfried Zaha
Ivory coast are not star studded as is the case for some time now and will expect Zaha to stand up and deliver the goods for the elephants
From trying to make an impression and also retaining the title I think Zaha is going to take the tournament by storm.

Afcon 2017: Every Premier League player heading to Gabon – and their departure date

Mike:

Top scorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Top scorer Aubameyang mainly because he’s a lethal finisher and arguably the best on the continent right now on current form.

Player of the Tournament – Jean Seri

Player of the tournament should be Jean Seri of Ivory coast I see his country going deep into the tournament and also see Seri bringing his ligue 1 form to the tournament. He’s one of the driving forces behind nices’ rise to the top of the league and also has the most assists in the league he’s a joy to watch and will be immense to any attack the elephants muster.

Kunle:

Top scorer – Moussa Sow

Player of the Tournament – Sadio Mane

Senegal will parade one of the finest teams along side Algeria and they should have their sight set on the cup. Moussa Sow will be expected to lead the line having found favour with coach Cisse.
Sadio Mane and Keita Balde Diao will complete the attacking trio. Mane has shown what a signing he has been for Liverpool and he has been in a rich vein of form this season. He and Lazio attacker, Diao, will hope to terrorise many defence. This will be beneficial to Sow and Senegal in the race for the golden boot and AFCON cup respectively.

David:

Top scorer – Asamoah Gyan.

Top Scorer of the tournament, I’ll have to pick the Ghanaian forward and legend Asamoah Gyan. This guy has a way of making headlines in tournaments regardless of his club form. He stole the show in the previous World Cup and previous episodes of the AFCON. With his status as a match winner, he’s expected to continue to make headlines.

Player of the Tournament – Riyad Mahrez/Sadio Mané

Player of the Tournament for me will be between Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City and Sadie Mané of Liverpool. Following Mahrez impressive form last season and impressive form in the UCL, it’s impossible to overlook him for this prize. Mane has also been a talisman for Juergen Klopps side and is expected to carry his form into the tournament. Yacine Brahimi of Algeria is also another contender for this prize.

Clinton:

Top scorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

For the Top scorer, I’m going with Aubameyang, being the host country I think a lot of motivation will add to his recent form at Dortmund to see him snatch the award. Going for 5-6 goals.

Player of the Tournament – Andre Ayew

Player of the tournament; I’m going with Andre Ayew. He hasn’t made much headlines since his return from injury but I think the experience from the last AFCON will fuel his determination this year.

Jimmy:

Top scorer – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Player of the Tournament – Riyad Mahrez
